Burnham travelled to Devon to face a side that had only lost once and were unbeaten at home and also having aspirations to win the league, not so.Burnham’s superior set piece play was dominant enough to deter Kingsbridge, plus their determination and resolve saw them through this encounter,in the end comfortably. From the start Burnham set out their stall by ruthlessly destroying Kingsbridge’s scrum,so much so that after just 5 minutes,Blake was able to pick up from the base, draw the defense and slip the ball to Tim Piper who dummied in and out before sliding to the line.0-5.Whatever Kingsbridge threw at Burnham they repelled and only some Devon refereeing kept the home team in the game with a spate of penalties allowing them to take the lead 9-5.However with the pack so forceful in the scrums Burnham were awarded 3 consecutive penalty scrums, enabling Stuart Blake to claim his umpteenth pushover try.Piper converted.9-12.Throughout the second half Burnham kept Kingbridge totally at bay, firstly with a couple of penalties from Piper,9-18, and when Kingsbridge did breakout they were sent back by the howitzer that is Chaffey’s boot until eventually after another kick driving Kingsbridge deep into their own 22,Stuart Blake stole the lineout and forced his way over to seal Burnham’s victory and confirm his richly deserved Man of the Match award.9-23.This was Burnham at their imperious best from 1 to 15.Absolutely marvellous.Burnham are at home this Saturday to Penryn.3.00pm kickoff.
