FORWARDS DEMOLISH THE HILL

Burnhams at last had their first 1st team fixture in 3 weeks and were chomping at the bit to get into action. With the training pitch unavailable at the basc due to the horrible weather conditions burnham have been very fortunate to be able to train on the king alfreds astro turf on a thursday and put in the hard fitness work at Brean Splash on a tuesday and from the first to the last minute of this game it showed all the consistent hard work had paid off.

With burnham back to full strength with all injuries finally cured they travelled to barton hill with a full compliment of players including young colt ben stacey, who would eventually come on to make his first team debut and showed what a promising young talent he will be in the years to come.

Playing on their 2nd team pitch which with all the weather was in suprisingly good condition but showed that once the game was under way it would cut up.
Burnham started up the hill against a strong wind and from the whistle put the pressure on barton and through a strong catch by ross (howling) mckechan burnham secured ball and an astute kick from elisi vunipola and pressure from captain marvel russ pike burnham were awarded a scrum in bartons 22 and from the resulting scrum were given a penalty which tim (the kid) piper slotted over.
Barton worked themselves down into burnhams 22 and were also rewarded with a penalty which their No 10 kicked over to take the score to 3-3. This would be the only time that barton would get into burnhams half in the first period.
Burnhams forward dominance was starting to come into play and at every scrum they were shunting them back at a rate of knots with burnhams young tight 5 (all under 22) in superb form. It was form a strong scrum in which burnham scored their first try, after several penalties and a sin binning to bartons tight head prop burnham were awarded a penalty try to take the score to 10 -3.

The second half began and it wasnt long before burnham got themselves down into barton hills 5 metre line when again they were given a scrum and after a few resets the boys in blue starting from the front in the form of the triplets sam(neggy)coles, mike(grand major sexy)hocking and ollie(blossom)streeter then the camp engine room in ross(howling)mckeckhan and george(westcroft)scott put the scrum into top gear and drove them back clean over their line for tim piper to touch down. 15-3
Barton tried as they might to force their way back into the game but it was met with resolute defence up front and also out back with strong tackling from rich(not out out)muskett and josh(student)holder. With them kicking up the slpoe for territory and finding touch only for quick thinking from rio(fat boy)cooper to give a quick lineout to tim piper who then fed it on to jordan(the sulk)paul who made in roads into their half and through quick phases the ball found its way out to russ(twiggy)pike who with strength and pace dived into the corner to score burnhams 3rd try much to george tuttiets delight who then had to calm down the home support. 20-3.
The last 15 mins burnham were camped on their own line with barton hill throwing every thing at them the defence held firm to shut the game out and hold onto the well deserved win.

This was bartons first home defeat of the season and the second time burnham have been able to keep a clean sheet in opposition tries. A great victory for burnham and was also their 2nd victory in 3 visits to the hill.
With training picking up and a solid start to the new year burnhams season looks like it will finally turn itself around specially with this win against the 2nd in the league.
