Burnham travelled to Cornwall with a team, whose average was just 23,with high hopes of getting their season back on track. They started positively and effectively,so much so that within 5 minutes of the start Oti’s strong tackle dislodged the ball, seized upon by Lee Vaughan, breaking 2 tackles and racing in from 45 metres.0-5.Burnham at this time were flying and great work by Farrell, ripping the ball out from a maul, immediately setting off Cutter to storm up the middle before passing to Brandon Pettitt to score in his own inimitable style.0-10.For the rest of the first half Burnham continued to play at a furious pace,in both defence and attack, with yet again prominent runs from their 2 wingers.Halftime 0-10.
Unfortunately, early in the second half Burnham lost 2 men to yellow cards which quickly cost them 2 tries and a conversion.Back to a full complement they struggled to to produce their high intensity of the first half, giving away far too many penalties and poor tackling cost them 2 further tries.24-10.However Burnham kept plugging awayand eventually took a penalty scrum 5 metres out and with good scrummaging and control,Sammy Lewis was able to dive over.24-15.
Try as they might they could not break Camels defence.Final score 24-15.Whilst Burnham are beginning to slide down the slippery slope there were many positives to take from the game.Strong performances from Vaughan, man of the match,Pettitt,Cutter, another exciting young prospect,Lewis.S,getting his backs moving swiftly and not to forget Camels are now 3rd in the table.A gallant effort, just ill-discipline really cost Burnham the match.
Burnham have no match next week,so come up to the BASC ground and support England.
