Burnham travelled to face a side that were four places above them,on a three match winning run and to contend with Barton Hill’s notorious pitch, however, from the very first moment Burnham set out their stall and controlled the game in just about every aspect, including the supporters who made it sound as if Burnham were at home. From the kickoff Hocking claimed the catch and the pack set off on a tight controlled maul that covered forty metres, rocking Barton Hill back on their heels and after the first few minutes a huge clearing kick from Cooper sent Hewlett chasing the defenders and holding them up until the pack arrived in numbers, reclaimed the ball before eventually sending the ball out to Bryan Webb, lurking on the wing,to force his way over.Piper converted.0-7.Burnham then, unfortunately conceded a scrum infringement, which allowed Barton Hill to convert the penalty.3-7.Burnham kept up the pressure, even in their own half and following a poor pass Piper kicked ahead forcing Barton Hill into a hurried kick, fielded by Paul to set a move that resulted in many players being involved before sending Rio Cooper to just scramble over in the corner.Piper again added the extra. 3-14. by this time Burnham’s dominant set piece and control in loose play forced Barton Hill into conceding a penalty within range of Piper’s impeccable boot.3-17. halftime. In the second half Barton hill managed to cross Burnham’s line in dubious circumstances, should have been penalised for one of many stamping incidents.8-17.not to be denied Burnham responded in their own inimitable fashion with the try of the match.Firstly, good lineout ball from House, back from his visit to the dominions, out to Vunipola to execute a miss move to Paul, improving with every match,to cut through the defence and then release the rampaging Russell Pike who cleverly fooled the full back before crashing through the final tackle to cross the line.Piper duly obliged 8-24.A fine victory that demonstrated all of Burnham’s attributes so much so that the supporters were unable to select any one individual and therefore awarded the whole team men of the match.Well done Burnham. This Saturday Burnham host Bristol Harlequins at home.Kickoff 2-30pm
