Many would of thought this Saturday’s home fixture to Oldfield Old Boys would of been postponed with Storm Jorge arriving but thankfully it didn’t dump to much rainfall over the BASC Ground which allowed the 1st Team game to go ahead albeit on the back pitch.

In the wet, cold and blustery conditions The Stags started the game well in poor conditions but it was Oldfield who managed to score first after capitalising when The Stags gave away possession in the Old’s half. Old’s pushed the Stags backwards through several phases of play to score after 10 minutes of play. 0-7.

It wasn’t too long before Josh Holder crossed the line to score the second try of the game out wide. Tim Piper’s attempt was blown away by Jorge. 5-7.

The Stags continued this momentum by working hard in all areas and retaining possession of the ball. This paid off, after several phases of play, and Richard Muskett spotted the gaps appearing in the Old’s defence and slid through to score which Piper converted. 12-7.

Chris Warner was next on the scoreboard who manged to scramble over the line and extend the lead with Piper converting shortly before half time. 19-7

Old’s appeared to have lost interest in the second half as the tries came raining in. Top Try Scorer, Will Hopkins, was next as he came at pace from deep and broke through the Olds defence with ease to secure the bonus point. Piper added 26-7.

Moments later, Warner scored his second in similar fashion to his first, scrambling that is, and took the game out of reach of Old’s 33-7.

Old’s head had completely dropped at this point and Sam Lewis scores  from the back of rolling maul, Piper converted 40-7. The last two tries were from inform winger Ryan Beard who showed his strength, agility and why he the most elusive winger the club has seen for years, both were converted by Piper and the final score was 54-7.

The stags remain at the top of the table and only need 3 more wind from the 6 remining games to seal the title.

Next week The Stags are away to St Bernadette’s KO is 2.30pm
