Burnham arrived early on a sunny afternoon at Bude leaving them plenty of time to prepare.
Burnham got off to a great start when they won a scrum on halfway. Scrum half Sam Lewis fed Tim Piper on the wing, who chipped the ball through then recovered his own kick before passing the ball along the back line for Ben Stacey to score in the corner.
Ten minutes later Burnham again found themselves with good field position. Rich (Kiwi) Muskett kicked the ball towards the Bude posts. The Bude full back picked up the ball and kicked the ball straight to Ross Mckechan who who’s ran in à try from 25 yards out.
Now it was Bude’s turn to attack and they were soon awarded a penalty, that they duely converted.
The next score was a Burnham penalty kicked by Tim Piper.
Bude now began to pile the pressure on when Burnham conceded a scrum close to their line. Bude’s dominant scrum was awarded a penalty try. Soon after that Bude scored a pushover try from a scrum. Both tries were converted.
Half-time score 17-13 to Bude.
Soon after the break Burnham won a Penalty. Sam Lewis took it quickly the ball was passed along the line where Lee Vaughan scored his first league try for Burnham. The rest of the game was very even with too many errors by both sides.
Following a period of Bude pressure they
Managed to score the winning try.
Burnham tried frantically for that score to give them the win but it never came.
In reflection a game played by two evenly matched sides that Burnham could quite easily have won.
