In modern parlance,a game of two halves. In the first half Burnham continued from where they left off from last week, allowing the first opportunity, followed by acontrolled spell by Burnham.Second half the boot was on the other foot.To the details, after 29 minutes of sparring,Avon got good possession from a penalty lineout, set up an efficient maul and trundled over.0-5.Burnham immediately replied with Kiwi Muskett regaining the ball from the kickoff, quickly out Pike, who had the vision to realise that he had a faster man outside him, drew the defence so that Ben Gibb with power and pace crossed the line.Tim Piper added the conversion.7-5.Burnham continued to press, forcing Avon into errors and after a couple of penalty lineouts going wrong,Avon transgressed again giving Piper the chance to add 3 more points.10-5.Just before halftime Burnham Burnham fashioned a well worked try.Good support after two phases gave Lewis time to feed Piper, then on to Ross McKechan, who produced two delightful dummies and then slipped the ball inside for Jordan Wikiteria to cgarge in under the posts.Piper adding the extras.17-5.As previously said the second half was a reversal of the first and even Burnham’s ,at times, heroic defending could not keep Avon out eventually conceding a penalty try anf a further try out wide, which luckily for Burnham,Avon’s conversion attempt hit the post anabling Burnham to nang on for two valuable points.17-17.Still undefeated in January but must sort out the set pieces and regain the discipline they had against Chew Valley.Head coach Graham Buller was pleased with most of Burnham’s first half but said they need to develop more of a killer instinct when they get the opportunities.Well done Burnham.Burnham’s next match is away to Barton Hill on Saturday 31sy January2015.
