Burnham’s season suffered another setback against a side recently promoted.Lack of cohesion, organisation and committment for lengthy periods of the game was Burnham’s downfall, but at times they showed that they had the ability to open up the opposition, even though they had many players missing through injury and unavailability.Burnham started the match tentatively and after 20 minutes were ten points down after conceding a penalty goal for offside and a converted try after Chew Valley’s series of scrums allowed their number 8 to create enough room for the outside centre to crash over.As in last weeks match this seemed to wake Burnham up and within 3 minutes Burnham successfully stole CV’s lineout giving Sam Wall the opportunity to drive at the defence, unfortunately injuring his ankle, setting up good ball, quick ball out to the backs for James Osgood to score his debut first team try.Converted br Tom Chaffey.7-10.Ten minutes later had kept the pot boiling and a cluster of successful phases allowed Lewis to whip the ball outside giving Ben Gibb the chance to accelerate onto the ball and score close to.Chaffey converted. 14-10.At last we all thought only for Burnham to recede into their shell allowing Chew Valley to record three more tries, two converted, either side of halftime.Only in the last 15 minutes did Burnham shake theirselves out of their lethargy by exerting continious pressure on Chew Valley giving Sam Lewis a chance to set up a break for Jordyn Wikiteria to cross the line.19-29.Try as they might Burnham were unable to convert any more chances.Final score 19-29.Burnham’s man of the match was Danny Spelman.Burnham have to realise that whilst they going through a transitional period with injuries and new players settling in,they must put in even more effort in communication with each other and keep their concentration for thw whole 80 minutes.Burnham are away this coming Saturday to Avon, currently third in the table
