At last a much needed win for Burnham who showed that with the right sort of possession they produce both effective and exciting rugby.even if they have been decimated with early season injuries, fortunately with more players turning up for training,Burnham can call upon adequate replacements with fine debuts from Sam Lewis,Sam Wall and especially Jordan”Rhino”Wikitera.Burnham started the match somewhat hesitantly and after 35 minutes found themselves down 10-3 and rarely entering North Bristol’s territory, apart from catching them offside allowing Piper to net 3 points. However Burnham suddenly changed gear and straight from the kickoff the pack applied sufficient pressure to the extent of Bigwood setting up a maul to allow quick ball to Jordan Wikitera to brush aside two of the opposition before cruising to score under the posts.Piper converted.10-10.Visibly lifted by this Burnham kept their foot on the pedal and within minutes Wikitera picked up from the base of the scrum beat two defenders before slipping a neat pass to Lewis, reverse ball to Paul, smart offload to Matt Love to drift past the final defender and score under the posts.Piper obliged.10-17.From the start of the second half Burnham continued with determination and application and following good possession from a scrum the backs produced a smart move out to Matt Love, who bamboozled the defence with a mesmerising Jamaican shuffle,to yet again score under the posts.10-24.10 minutes later Burnham pack again supplied good ball for Wikitera to pick up,feed Lewis, out to Love to stroll in for his hattrick.10-29.North Bristol replied in the last 15 minutes, with the help of some strange decisions by the referee,by recording two tries but eventually Burnham ran out worthy winners.22-29.After the match Head coach Graham Buller, obviously relieved, said that this week Burnham showed greater committment and intensity and that Burnham have now got the opportunity to work on moving forward.Man of the match, Jordan Wikitera, for his driving runs and constantly putting Burnham on the front foot.Well done Burnham.
