Burnham signed off their season with the required win to guarantee their position as the fourth best placed team in the league.Couple that with six players being selected to train for the Somerset Saxons and to round it off our U14’s played in the winning team in the Somerset Super Six competition, proves how much Burnham have moved on .Well done to all participants.Burnham started well enough but resolute defence and missed opportunities kept the score sheet clean until the reliable hands of Blake secured perfect ball for the forwards to drive on allowing Bryan Webb to peel off on the blindside and race over.Piper converted.7-0.However after wasting some good chances Burnham again provided solid lineout ball, recycled twice before Vunipola switched play enabling Tim Piper to brush througu a tackle and cross the line.12-0.Halftime.With Truro having the benefit of the wind in the second half Burnham knew that they had to keep it tight and also their discipline but after twelve minutes they were penalised for going ai from the side.12-3.Not to be deterred Burnham then produced some forceful rugby, winning all their own scrums and disrupting most of Truro’s and eventually built up sufficient pressure that after two successful penalty scrums, playing advantage, quality ball was whipped out to Richard Muskett to cruise through the gap.19-3.Task completed.Looking forward, apart from one or two,Burnham have a young squad who can only improve with age and experience and with coach Elisi Vunipola, yet again.improving Burnham’s league position, for the fourth successive season,he has stated that he feels that next season Burnham should gain promotion. What a boost that would be to delight the Burnham faithful, who have been wonderfully supportive throughout the entire season and are already looking forward to next season.Burnham’s presentation dinner is being held at the Farmer’s Tavern,Brean Leisure Park, on Friday 13th May 7pm with guest speaker Graham Roundtree,ex England and British Lions. If you wish to come contact either Alex Humphries 07595021065 or Caine Harding 07730066463.
