Burnham took on Gordano in their second pre-season game, after beating cheddar 30-5 Burnham where determined to make it two wins out of two, and they did just that putting lots of pressure on Gordano controlling the first quarter. The first chance came just inside two minute when Burnham had a scrum, driving Gordano backwards scrum half Tim piper picked up the ball from the back of the scrum and fed it to Will Conway who then passed it out to Jordan Paul on the wing who ran at his opposite winger with pace but unfortunately got tackled out of touch. Burnham really started to pick up a lot more comfort with the ball causing Gordano lots of problems, Burnham’s comfort off the ball showed when Ross Mckechan received Tim piper’s pass and ran through the defence to score for Burnham.
The second quarter saw Burnham work Gordano a lot harder as Burnham used set pieces and moves to make more gaps in the Gordano defence and that showed when Burnham got the ball out quickly down the line to Russ Pike who ran through the Gordano defence on the five metre line to score to extend Burnham’s lead.
The third quarter saw Gordano turn things around attacking more and keeping hold of the ball, which paid off when Richard Muskett’s kick was charged down by their fifteen who ran from the halfway line to score for Gordano. Both teams had lots of chances. Gordano picked up their confidence causing problems for Burnham and they did just that in the last few minutes of the third quarter Burnham had picked up a yellow card when the referee gave Alex Watkins a yellow for coming in from the side.. This helped Gordano’s confidence and with what nearly was the last kick of the third quarter Gordano’s outside centre broke through their own half which saw Richard Muskett make a big tackle on halfway to stop the centre from scoring.
The fourth and final quarter saw Gordano pile on lots more pressure on Burnham, it saw Burnham give everything they had left in to what was another great performance. Burnham then scored again which saw Alex Watkins redeem himself from his yellow card as he took the ball from Tim Piper and score underneath the posts. Burnham then stepped it up and with a few minutes’ left Jordan Paul broke from the halfway line with his quick feet to trouble Gordano but was held right on the twenty- two which then resulted in a lineout. Towards the end of the game Alex Watkins after receiving the ball broke into space to score his second try of the game.
In another brilliant performance from Burnham helped them to a 20-5 victory showing some relentless and encouraging signs for the season ahead .
