Burnham got back to winning ways, despite the weather and half the back line missing through injuries. With the wind and rain howling across the pitch,Burnham played against the elements for the first half, keeping Welly at bay for the first 20 minuites, until eventually their strong and disciplined mauling offered the chance to release Elisi Vunipola close enough to barrel his way over, whereupon Chaffey showed his kicking ability to convert against the wind.7-0.However Wellington were not to be denied and before halftime recorded two tries, one converted, with some enterprising mauling to create an overlap in the corner for the first and some fortuitous hacking on to score under the posts for the second.Halftime 7-12.After a lengthy break because of injury Burnham started the second half in considerably more determined mood and after a series of scrums and finally a penalty scrum, which they drove over,Stuart Blake claiming the touchdown,Chaffey converted.14-12.A few minutes laterBurnham were awarded a penalty which was,yet again converted with aplomb by Chaffey.17-12.Within a short space of time Burnham came again with the try of the match.Burnham’s fiercesome pack controlling a succession of rucks and mauls, driving on with smart offloads enabling Kiwi Muskett to find the gap before slipping a smart pass inside to Ollie Streeter to complete the move.Chaffey, judging the wind perfectly, adding the extras.24-12.Finally after another flurry of penalties in Wellington’s 22,Burnham’s all conquering pack drove Welly backwards yet again for Blake to claim his second try.Chaffey converting to record a 100% kicking score.Burnham proved that they can step a gear when they need to,but they must maintain this level all the time.Their general fitness levels and superior technical ability are not just enough, desire and committment go hand in glove, but all in all a competent performance in difficult conditions.Well done Burnham.Burnham are away this coming Saturday to Torquay Athletic kickoff 2-30pm.weather permitting.
