A convincing win for Burnham against spirited Paignton side, however Burnham’s indomitable pack proved far to strong for their opponents. From the start Burnham set out their stall, playing against the wind, they kept Paignton on the back foot, reducing them to desperately trying to clear their lines and from such a misplaced kick Burnham ran it back and after three successful phases,Hayden Tuttiet, back after a long absence through injury, spotted the gap and skipped down the blind side evading tackles to score out wide.5-0.Six minutes later Burnham were awarded a penalty after a series drives, gathered in the lineout, recycled three times giving Alan House the opportunity to bulldoze his way over.Piper converted.12-0.Paignton were not to be denied and a long clearing kick bounced awkwardly enabling to claim the loose ball and force their way over.12-7.Burnham continued to press and eventually after three consecutive offences committed by Paignton the referee awarded Burnham a penalty try.19-7.Halftime.Early in the second half burnham’s dominance in forward play culminated in them gaining a pushover try against the head, claimed by Stuart Blake.26-7.Straight from the kickoff Hocking caught the ball, burst up the middle before passing to Coles to set up an advantageous ruck which led to Burnham gaining ground through many hands until finally out to Tom Chaffey to score in the corner.31-7.In the last few minutes Burnham’s formidable scrummaging resulted in another pushover try for Blake.38-7.This was the performance Burnham needed after recent setbacks and with the team back to full strength Burnham can go on to finish the season on a high.Well done Burnham.Burnham are away to Kingsbridge this week.Kickoff 2-30pm.
