In what was a physical and competitive game, Burnham were looking to keep up their good form. Both sides started the game well creating chance after chance, five minutes, in Tiverton’s fullback kicked the ball over the top of Burnham’s line, Jordan Paul took the ball and ran from inside the twenty two, breaking through Tiverton’s line. To his misfortune the fullback stopped Jordan’s brilliant run and turnedover to give Tiverton possession, Tiverton defended well keeping their line and structure stopping Burnham from getting through. Unfortunately for Tiverton, Burnham took the ball from the ruck and passed down the line, feeding Farrell Rogan who offloaded to Jordan Paul going in to score in the corner, Josh Holder missed the conversion.

Burnham’s try woke up Tiverton, applying set pieces & moves causing problems for Burnham.  Winning their own lineout, they drove their way in to Burnham’s twenty two seeing their scrum half pop it to the winger, scoring for Tiverton and calmly converted.

The try really got Tiverton going, proven when their flanker won a penalty at the twenty two, slotted over by their fly half giving them a 10-5 lead. Burnham then started to struggle keeping hold of Tiverton, missing tackles emphasised when Tiverton won another penalty at the ruck, their fly half again knocked over the penalty giving them a 13-5 lead.
With 16 minutes to go Burnham started to brighten up, using some great moves giving them something to build on. Ten minutes to go before half time Tiverton’s winger took the ball at the twenty two seeing Matt Love take him out denying a good opportunity for Tiverton. With five minutes left Tiverton scored again getting the ball out quickly to their winger, breaking through the line scoring at the corner, their fly half failed to convert.

Burnham started to improve their performance in the second half seeing them using great moves creating opportunities for themselves, proven when Burnham won a penalty for handling in the ruck, which Josh Holder put over cutting the deficit to ten. Both sides started to lose discipline costing Burnham when their flanker Jake Allen was shown a yellow card for handling in the ruck, Burnham were now down to fourteen. But matters got worse when Burnham were given another yellow card for Mason Shaw retaliating; Burnham were down to thirteen men.
Tiverton had another chance to score when their centre kicked the ball over the top and chased it down, but to his misery Russell Pike was there to cover for Burnham and kick the ball out for a lineout. Burnham had a further great opportunity when Jordan Paul went on a dazzling run, slipping through tackles until he was stopped by Tiverton’s winger. Within five minutes both Jake Allen and Mason Shaw returned, Burnham was back to the full fifteen.

Burnham continued to pressurise Tiverton and in the last ten minutes they did just that, Richard Musket received the ball from Sam Lewis and popped it to Mason Shaw who drove himself over the halfway line. Burnham struggled to get in Tiverton’s half until the last five minutes when Jordan Paul broke through the line in to the twenty two, but again to his disappointment he was held by the fullback. Burnham continued to create chances for themselves. The last kick of the game saw Burnham reach Tiverton’s line using phase after phase, Matt Slater picked up the ball and drove himself over the line but was penalized for double movement; a disappointing result for Burnham who play Wellington next Saturday.
