Burnham eventually emerged winners from a pulsating match that had the good the bad and the ugly. The good,Burnham’s never say die attitude in the second half, the bad Burnham’s poor tackling in the first half and the ugly, nothing really, just completing the expression.Cirencester started the game, belying their league position and within minutes from the kickoff they produced turnover ball for their outside centre, classy player,to break the line and score close to.0-7.For the next twenty minutes or so neither side managed to gain a stronghold, except Burnham kicking two penalties to one.6-10,until Cirencester were awarded a penalty, opted to go for the lineout allowing their scrumhalf to peel away from the maul and score in the corner.6-15.Ten minutes later another successful lineout for Cirencester, swiftly sent down the lineout for the 13,again to brush off ineffective tackling and score under the posts.6-22.Burnham responded with a penalty goal only for Cirencester to reciprocate.Halftime 9-25.Second half,Burnham with a mountain to climb but helped by a following wind and considerable vocal support from their ever faithful, produced the best possible start.Penalty into the corner, catch and drive, extra weight and support from the midfield drove Cirencester back over their line for Elisi Vunipola to claim the try.16-25.Burnham kept up the pressure and after the referee had sinbinned two Cirencester players he awarded a penalty try.23-25.Cirencester,however,were not to be denied quickly hit back with their own execution of the catch and drive.23-30.With both sides realising this was a potent weapon Burnham reproduced the same move as their first try only this time it was Tim Piper’s turn to profit and then convert.30-30. As the game was drawing to it’s conclusion Burnham took a scrum against the head, whipped out Vunipola, whose smart pass sent Piper through to wrap up the game with his second try.37-30.What a match,a credit to both teams, proving that the game is never over until the final whistle.Burnham’s attacking style will always create chances but they must strengthen their awareness and their tackling. However well done Burnham.Next Saturday Burnham are away to high flying Chard, kickoff 3pm.
