Burnhams pack too strong!
Burnham travelled to Devonport Services on saturday with high confidence from the great start to the season. Knowing that Devonport were a strong outfit the coaches Elisi Vunipola and Graham Buller made sure the players understood that the first 20 minutes were going to be crucial, with that in mind Burnhams pack set to work from the first kick off and with powerful runs and great interplay and support the old man Alan House crashed over the line within the first 5 minutes to open Burnhams account, new daddy Piper added the extra points to make it 7-0. The electric start fired up the rest of the team and Burnham now started to showcase their talent in some very good attacking play through both forwards and backs which led to Tim Piper getting his dancing shoes on to skip past the defence and score under the post, Piper who devoted his performance to his week old daughter Ava and wife Holly added two more points with the conversion.
Not to be written off Devonport came back at Burnham but with some strong tackling and some impressive scramble defence there was no way through, some ill discipline led to a Devonport penalty which they kicked for posts to make it 14-3.
Burnhams next try came through the ever rampant vice captain Mike hocking after again more impressive attacking rugby from all Burnhams players, again Piper kicked the extra points now 21-3 to Burnham. Devonport added another 3 points before the break to make it 21-6 at half time.
The second half was a different story, Devonport threw everything they had at Burnham but the iron gate stayed firmly closed with solid tackling from new signing Tom Chaffey, captain Pike, Josh Holder and Rich Muskett, however after a Devonport player tried to touch his hair Muskett wasnt happy and put in a big hit which the ref deemed illegal and showed him a yellow card, Burnham were down to 14 players for 10 minutes but again an impenetrable defence from all players shut out Devonport who could only manage another penalty to make the final score 21-9.
In all another solid performance from all players which were 1.Coles 2.Hocking 3.Tower 4.Keckers 5.House 6.Spellman 7.Fear 8.Blake 9.Tuttiett 10.Piper 11.Love 12.Muskett 13.Holder 14.Pike (c) 15.Chaffey 16.Nash 17.Lewis 18.Maka Man of the match was awarded to Stu Blake for his hard graft through the whole 80 mins, this Saturday Burnham welcome Tavistock to the pit! 1500 kick off.
