A ding dong battle ensued at the BASC ground with Burnham taking the early iniatative followed by Tavistock’s revival so much so that Burnham were pleased to hear the final whistle,honours shared.After 15 minutes of sparring between the two sides,Burnham were awarded a penalty.From the lineout Burnham set up a driving maul with sufficient forward momentum to allow Ollie Streeter to peel off and force his considerable bulk over the line.5-0.Ten minutes later Burnham constructed some well controlled pressure,involving both pack and backs before releasing the friuts of their labour for Tim Piper to dance past the defence and cruise in under the posts.Chillingworth converted.12-0.However Tavistock were not to be denied and shortly after Burnham’s kick ahead went awry,Tavistock returned with interest with their centre to ground the ball under the posts.12-7.Burnham then tried to up the tempo and following a strike against the head,House picked up,released Vunipola to set up Kiwi Muskett to slide in.19-7.Tavistock retaliated almost immediately,forcing Burnham to concede a penalty on their own 22 directly in front of the posts.19-10.Halftime.The second half restarted with Tavistock missing the chance to close the gap with a penalty,Burnham againraised their sights and after exerted pressure from lineouts they created enough space for Phil Hobbs to crash over .24-10.Not to be denied Tavistock decided it was their turn to turn the screw and for the next 30 minutes they laid siege to Burnham’s line,scoring two converted tries,thereby ensuring that honours were even.A hard fought contest that whilst the points were shared Rugby was the winner with both teams playing their hearts out.Well done both clubs.This Saturday Burnham travel to Tiverton,kickoff 2-30pm.
