Burnham returned to winning ways with a convincing win over first time visitors Okehampton on a brisk autumnal afternoon which moved them up to 8th in the league, recording their fourth bonus point of the season. For the first five minutes Burnham pinned Okehampton in their own half with a series of scrums and lineouts until a successful catch and drive from ten metres out registered the first try, claimed by Nick McKen.5-0.Ten minutes later Okehampton responded by scoring in the corner after some ineffectual tackling by Burnham.5-7.From then onwards Burnham tightened their grip, especially when they had the opportunity to exercise their superior mauling, repeating try number one, this time Sam Coles recording his second try in successive games.12-7.Okehampton then transgressed under their posts and Sam Chillingworth duly obliged.15-7.Just before halftime Burnham again resorted to their tried and trusted lineout routine, only this time it was Mike Hocking who grabbed the glory with his first try for the first team.20-7.The second half was a hard fought battle with neither side giving way until Okehampton committed the cardinal sin of not playing to the whistle. They thought that Muskett had drifted into touch, only neither official had given it,therefore snaffled the loose ball and scored close to the posts.27-7.Final score. Both sides have to be commended for a clean hard fought contest and at times if Burnham’s tackling, notably Kiwi Muskett, had not been sure, then there may have been a different result.Burnham showed yet again that their main weapon is their pack, not only offensively but also when the pressure is on.Well done Burnham. This Saturday Burnham travel to Plymouth to play a rearranged match against Devonport services.Kickoff 2-30pm.Coach travel has been organised to include supporters.
