Burnham hosted their Old Boys Reunion on Saturday and it was a pleasure to see some old faces especially as members of the club had done their best to make them welcome. After they had been treated to lunch they were then treated to another feast, only this time on the pitch.Burnham did what they have been threatening to do for a long time and that what was to perform in every phase of the game. Each player played his part in this resounding victory and whilst Newquay have not had a good start to the season,Burnham can only play what is in front of themand for once they set out their stall from the off.Two minutes into the match Burnham’s dominani pack took a scrum against the head, skipper Blake broke away, set up a maul to create a simple chance for Richard Muskett to score.7-0.Newquay kept Burnham for the next 15 minutes before Burnham were awarded a penalty and from the resulting lineout Burnham’s catch and drive enabled Bryan Webb to score.12-0.Burnham took another 15 minutes before they were able to break the Newquay defence, this time opting for a scrum and then driving over for Stuart Blake to score.17-0.Just before half time Newquay at last managed to win one of their own scrums but Burnham’s pack turned over the ball for Blake to scoop up the ball and set off before releasing to Webb to beat his man and race in from 40 metres.24-0.Right from the restart Burnham then produced some intensive, controlled, supportive rugby that would have been difficult for any team to play against.Backs combining with forwards to provide good ball enabling Vunipola to show his international class with the timing of his pass to set up Nick McKen under the posts.31-0.Even when Newquay successfully turned over Burnham possession and then kicked clear only to find the willing Jordan Paul running back, beating five opponents before setting up an easy run in for Webb to claim nih hattrick 36-0.Moments later Burnham again turned the ball over, after Newquay tried to break away, sent the ball down the line to find Rees who crossed the line but somehow left the ball behind for Ollie Streeter’s meaty paw to claim the score.43-0.From then on Burnham turned up the heat even more and attacked Newquay from every where and after another forceful catch and drive Webb broke away to record his fourth try.48-0.Next Burnham opted for a scrum from a penalty, drove forward then out to backs with Tim Piper drifting into the line to score.55-0.Straight from the restart McKen caught the ball made good yardage before the ball was whipped out to the backs for Piper to enter the line and scamper in from 50 metres.62-0 Five minutes later Burnham’s lineout dominance with Blake produced a scintillating drive for Sam Coles to score his first ever senior try.69-0.Once again, straight from the kickoff Burnham regained possession and with some well controllef movement between backs and forwards until Vunipola released Blake to go over.76-0.Following,yet again, another successful lineout was sent down the line producing a dazzling move from the backs to allow Sam Chillingworth to show off his blinding pace.83-0.Finally after a tap penalty Elisi Vunipola capped a fine performance by wrapping up the game to cross the line.88-0.14 tries and 9 conversions, all by Chillingworth, sent Burnham’s supporters away with the knowledge that they had witnessed something special and after a lengthy debate over several beers they decided that Nick McKen was man of the match.Well done Burnham.Next up Burnham are away to North Petherton Sat.23rd kickoff 3pm.Should be interesting.
