Burnham travelled to their shortest away game of the season, with a large following,to take on a side that they had never beaten in the league before, but maintained their 100% record with a comfortable win.The match was only into the second minute when Piper was subjected to a high tackle and proceeded to punish Wellington with the penalty.0-3.Not long after Wellington were caught offside after a strong driving maul by Burnham.Piper duly obliged.0-6.Burnham continued to press and eventuallyset up a series of mauls allowing Tuttiett enough time to spot Pip[er in the pocket to drill over a well struck drop goal.0-9.Just before half time Blake stole Wellington’s lineout close to their line setting up another powerful maul which Tim Piper latched onto the back to secure the touchdown and then convert.0-16.Burnham continued in the same vein in the second half and Burnham’s formidable pack forced Wellington’s front row to go up for Piper to add to the tally.0-19.All credit to Wellington they did not give in and created enough pressure to send the ball down the line for their right winger to escape from Love’s tackle and score in the corner.5-19.One of Burnham’s strong points this season is their defense and on this occasion they forced Wellington into dropping the ball, hacked on by House, followed by Tom Chaffey to kick further on and ground the ball for his debut try for Burnham.5-24.Again Wellington responded and a long breakout by the fullback culminated in try by the forwards.12-24.But Burnham are not to be denied this season and after securing a scrum on their own line, picked up by Spelman, popped a pass to Pike who thumped the ball forward, forcing Wellington back to their own line whereupon sufficient pressure was exerted to give Alan House to drive over.12-29.This was a potential banana skin match for Burnham but such is the character of this team that are able to take everything in their stride.Well done Burnham.Burnham are at home this Saturday to Torquay Athletic Kick off 3pm.
