Under what could only be described as swamp like conditions , suited best to alligators, the Burnham on sea 2,s gallantly ran out to face Wells.
At their first meeting this season Wells had been victorious so it was a match that burnham really needed to win particularly as Wells is just above them in the league lying 2nd and burnham third.
Burnham started off with a game plan which they stuck to throughout.
It commenced with Burnham forwards providing good ball against a much larger pack.
There was a line out, a maul and Tim James picked up the ball and scored a try in the corner which wasn’t converted.
Wells came back strongly but the tricky conditions meant that ball handling and passing very difficult for both teams.
Second row Tom Wall and Tom Boobyer, played solidly throughout.
Chris Warner and Rob Leigh were solid in the pack.
Nick Mcken , hooked well and did a brilliant job throwing in on the line outs making a real difference to Burnham,s game.
The second half was much wetter and muddier, hampering play for both teams and stopping Burnham playing the open , flowing passing game which with the number of quick young players, they have has recently led to them winning games.
Well,s heavier players were getting completely bogged down which enabled Burnham to find a chink to break through Wells formidable defence. A series of scrums brought about Burnham, s second try , Tim Piper picked up the ball off loading to Ben Gibb to score.
Neither of the tries were converted but conditions as bad as they were it wasn’t surprising.
At the start of the game the players held a minutes silence in memory of Christine Piper in recognition of the significant contribution to the club she had made over the years, condolences to her family
Burnham played their hearts out it was a brilliant game to watch and a perfect result under all the circumstances.
Many thanks to Sally Flack for report
