A combination of skilful youth and older player exuberance gathered at the BASC ground to take on the a combination of players travelling from land of many TV murders.
With the wind in their faces Burnham were unable to clear their line and soon found themselves under pressure from the Midsommer pack.  A rolling maul was set up close to the Burnham line and the subsequent drive resulted in Burnham conceding the first unconverted try.
However this score fired Burnham into life for the rest of the first half was all Burnham. Tom Stevens cut  a great line from rookie 2nd team fly half Scott Havercroft.  In hot persuit was Ben Stacey who linked up. The pass was returned to Tom but he drew another player to let Ben open Burnhams account.
Burnham  received the kick off from and knew they had to keep the ball in hand.  From two phases Burnham flyer Chris Marsh received the ball and set off down the left wing he beat the final defender to go in under the posts. Unfortunately  Alex Watkins had not packed his kicking boots this half and could not capitilise on the taking the extras.
Ben Gibb bagged two tries in quick succession. One of just individual brialliance, collecting the ball from a  Midsommer kick  into Burnhams half and going through or around four  defenders to cross.
The second finished off a great set up by the Burnham pack with Joe Hester breaking the gain line with some powerful running.
It was not long before Burnham were back in the Midsommer half and from an infringment at the breakdown, Tim Piper took the quick tap to release a flying Ben Stacey to cross for a try.
Although Alex Watkins  had not packed his kicking boots the legs in them allowed him to speed into the back line  and go over for a great try to close out the half. 34 – 5 at half time.
A few changes at half time by Burnham and the large score accrued in the first half resulted in Burnham becoming complacent. This allowed Midsommer back into the game and they took their chances to score three times .
However the individual skill level of Burnham far exceeded the Midsommer players and Burnham matched the three scores of their own. Mason Shaw, Ben Gibb and Tim Piper all took chances created by the hard work of the Burnham pack. This was bolstered with Development Squad coach Andy Fear and ‘Podge’ Barrington taking to the field.
Alex Watkins closed out the day by finding his target. Well done all. The 2’s are away  to Bridgwater and Albion this weekend . 14:15 Kick Off. See you all there……………
