Burnham entertained Keynsham in front of a good sized crowd, knowing that they needed to win to secure their tenure in the wesyern counties league,be it north or west.Burnham kicked off with the elements in their favour and within three minutes of kickoff Keynsham were caught napping enabling Tim Piper,playing his last game for Burnham’s First XV,to claim the points.3-0.For the next 30 minutes Keynsham’s forwards kept pressing whilst Burnham’s backs,living on scraps,made substantial breakouts until Keynsham’s pack power were rewarded with a penalty try after Burnham’s third offence in the red zone.3-7.Half time.Burnham’s plan for the second half was to do their best to keep the ball in hand but,it took them 20 minutes to finally breakthrough Keynsham’s defence.For once Burnham managed to secure a clean lineout and after two quick phases Henry Bigwood slipped in to the gap and scored under the posts.Piper converted 10-7.Keynsham instantly replied with a penalty kick.10-10.Shortly after this the match had to resort to uncontested scrums,two of Burnham’s props were injured and unable to continue,and with the game seesawingafter a good spell of pressure Burnham were awarded a scrum 7 metres out and Wikiteria picked up at the bas, drew the opposition,before releasing Beau Dickens to crash over.15-10.With 10 more tense nail biting minutes remaining,Burnham’s heroic defence kept Keynsham at bay to secure the victory.What a match,not particulary a classic,but the result was what mattered.Every man in Burnham’s squad stood up to be counted,nobody could have asked for any more.Well done Burnham.See you all next seaon.
