In a fast and at times furious Burnham emerged winners, even though they were forced to make changes because of injuries, adding to Burnham’s long list. However they started brightly and a storming run by Wikiteria forced Saracens onto the back foot culminating in a penalty, converted by Chaffey.3-0.With play ebbing and flowing Burnham went further ahead after a period of pressure producing a series of moves involving both backs and forwards before Russ Pike gathered a long pass, almost intercepted, and raced close to the posts, converted by Chaffey.10-0.From then on neither side was able to break through until Burnham were eventually awarded a penalty when Saracens were caught interfering in the ruck.Chaffey duly obliged.13-0.Halftime.The start of the second half saw a carbon copy of the first and for 30 minutes everything stayed the same, except for another penalty for Burnham, successfully kicked by Chaffey.Unfortunately Saracens,at last, found the key to unlock Burnham’s defence when their scrum half darted under the outstretched arms to dive over.16-5.10 minutes later Burnham were awarded a penalty, secured the lineout, negotiated 3 hard fought phases before releasing the backs thereby creating enough space for Tom Chaffey to score out wide and then add the extra.23-5.Head coach Graham Buller was obviously delightedand stated that Burnham were more committed, right from the off,the defence was much more solid and they were fitter and faster. Finally he said following instructions, both in training and match day, makes a happy player and of course the coach.Well done Burnham. This coming Saturday Burnham are away to Stothert and Pitt kickoff 2-30pm.
