Burnham travelled to Exeter on Saturday hoping to maintain their current league position in Western Counties West, which they just managed to achieve. In an error strewn match, played in a blustery wind, honours were eventually shared with Saracens winning the first half and Burnham reciprocating for the second half. For the first half Burnham failed to take advantage of the wind and after twenty minutes found themselves ten points down following two break outs by Saracens. Fortunately this shook Burnham to the extent that they reverted to their forwards to gain sufficient control and momentum to enable Elisi Vunipola to break through and crash over.10-5.
For the second half Burnham carried on in the same fashion, against the wind, exerting enough control to prove their pedigree and after a good scrum Tuttiet fed Vunipola, out to Piper to find a gap and kick to the corner for John Edwards to record his first senior try for Burnham, sure to be many more.10-10. In the end neither side deserved to lose and perhaps one of those games you put fown to experience. Plusses, Burnham’s midfield is beginning to gel nicely, both in attack and defence, the introduction of Dan Spelman and Jordan Paul showing his tenacity and growing maturity. Minusses,we will try to forget them.Still, after all that ,still sixth in the table. This Saturday Burnham are at home to Kingsbridge, kickoff at 2-30.
