After a text book home win Burnham travelled down the road to play old adversary Morganians. In the initial exchanges Burnham had the upper hand taking the game to Morgs. It was not long before Burnham had a penalty chance just outside the Morgs 5m line. Burnham decided to punch it up. However they came away with nothing as Morgs snuffed out the attack. Morgs started to probe Burnhams defence by putting up the high ball.
However with safe hands at full back Burnham’s Tim James returned the high ball exchange. Winger Felix Grandfield followed the chase and forced the full back to kick the ball out to touch. From resulting line out Burnham forwards forced a driving maul and drove from the Morgs 22m line straight over the try line with the touch down made by ex – club captain Stuart Blake. Fly half Scott Havercroft could not add the extras. However up against former Tongan fly half Elisi Vunopola he did not look out of place. If Scott can adopt Elisi’s art of bossing the game by continually talking to ensure everyone is in the right place and the right time and just being the pivot to play off we are looking at a new Burnham 1st team fly half.
At the restart Morgs took the game back to Burnham and quick succession Morgs scored. However they did not covert their spoils.
Following half time Burnham knew if they could regain their initial momentum by playing at their tempo at cut out the mistakes they could take this.
However the Morgs half back combination continually asked the questions releasing strong gain line runners and little chips through. The momemtum swung to Morgs. Man of the match Felix Grandfield was at the heart of the defence with some courageous tackling. The Morganians pressure resulted in one second half try and they finished out the game victors.
