Burnham travelled to the Cornish coast,Charlie Norton navigating, enough said, to play against the bottom placed side with considerably more to lose than to gain and they were given a large scare by a club that have improved quite emphatically since the first half of the season.Burnham started well with firstly Newquay conceding an early penalty, piper duly obliged,0-3,followed by scrum against the head, out to Vunipola to draw the defence before releasing Tim Piper to spin out of the attempted tackle and score close too and then convert.0-10.Big smiles all round from Burnham’s faithful travelling support, except for  Charlie Norton still trying to find his way to the pitch, soon wiped off though when Hornets showed that they could sting and forcing Burnham back deep into their own half,Newquay were able to fashion enough room for attack to finish under the posts.7-10.However,the faithful were soon smiling again when Burnham’s pack produced quality ball from a lineout enabling Vunipola to demonstrate his sleight of hand and send Muskett up the middle, checked inside the 22 but made the ball available for Piper to strive for the line, held up 3 metres out but popped the ball to a rampaging Matt Bonell to score in the corner.7-15.Sighs of relief but not for long as,for once,Burnham failed to control their own scummage ball allowing Newquay to ponce and score in the corner.12-15.Halftime.From the restart Burnham continued to hold the upper hand until an unfortunate pass went straight into a grateful pair of Newquay’s hands, race away and score under the posts.19-15.This was possibly the wakeup call that Burnham needed producing an unstoppable rolling maul that the referee eventually decided that Newquay had pulled down and awarded a penalty try.19-22.Notwithstanding this setback Newquay still kept probing and after two consecutive penalties close to Burnham’s line, resulting in a yellow card,Newquay took the points to draw the game level.22-22.Burnham then decided to revert to plan A and prevent their opponents from having the ball, hanging on long enough before combining several phases and then creating the space for Jordan Paul to score his debut try in the corner.Piper slotting home the extra points.22-29.What a relief successfully negotiating a potential banana skin but enabling Burnham to move up to fifth in the table.Burnham’s journey back was uneventful,Charlie was asleep.Well done Burnham,This Saturday Burnham face local rivals North Petherton, kickoff 2-30pm.
